The Worst of Times...
Searching for the detailed timeline I prepared from other research all I could find was this e-mail posted to a friend marking a sad anniversary on January 28th, 2006..
Today is the 20th anniversary of the Challenger disaster...twenty years ago today I was in Manila...at work, when a friend informed me that the shuttle had blown up just after lift off.
I have relied on researching past news events as a spur to trigger my own remembrance of things past.
When I first started writing my script I prepared a chronology of which events in my own life must have occurred at what time based both on personal recollections and what was happening in the wider world.
My ten months in Manila were rather convoluted and complex...a lot happened...and yet I can now look back on it as an episode; a self contained little bundle of chaos and loose ends...sealed up in a Manila envelope.
I would still love to do this film or bring this story to life somehow...right about now (circa Xmas 2005-Jan. 2006) would have been the perfect time to release it...in just a few weeks it will be the 20th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.
